Re: Random game chat
Absolutely. Bethesda got it right with Fallout 4, announce a game 6 months or so before it's guaranteed it will be finished and hit it's release date. Do we really need to know about a game up to two years before we can play it?

Marketing departments and decades worth of sales figures say yes sadlymegablast16 wrote:Absolutely. Fallout 4 did what it did because it could not many franchises let alone singular games could pull it off without it having some negative impact on their sales figures.
Re: Random game chat
I've made the choice to give up with Zombi. The free PS+ game was actually quite good fun, and I was really enjoying it. However, I am near the end, and for a bit of "fun" the game has stripped you of all your weapons and gear that you have collected, and stuck you in a horde style arena with a pistol to fend off waves of zombies. What a way to ruin a game! I've been stuck here for a good hour now, doing the same small section before dying because I'm over run. It's just such a terrible bad-feeling way to end a game that right up until that point I was utterly enjoying. I do wonder how such bad gaming designs can be brought into games. How did anyone on the dev team think...I know what would be fun, lets have a horde zombie mode right at the end of the game. That's always GREAT fun! Piss off.

Is the collectible figure sub culture of gaming dying out? Disney have announced they are stopping Infinity. I never jumped on this expensive craze, however it did look cool. But like plastic guitars and 3D gaming, is this just a crash grabbing fad now ending?

Re: Random game chat
I think it is more that Disney higher-ups realised they could make way more money licensing their IP out to other developers/publishers. They've been raking in the cash with their mobile licences and deals with the likes of EA which will make the profits for Disney Infinity seem quite small. It's a shame and I've enjoyed dabbling with the various Disney Infinity games over the past few years. Annoyingly I don't have the cash at the moment but I want to get a bunch of Disney Infinity figures just for their designs before they become hard/expensive to get!Wolvieware wrote:Is the collectible figure sub culture of gaming dying out? As for toys to life as a whole I'd say the initial approach popularised by Skylanders, Disney Infinity and Lego Dimensions might be on the way out. I'm expecting more universal, buy one toy use it for multiple games formats like Amiibo going forward. Its an easier sell to parents and has greater rewards for collectors of the figures.

Completed the Journey Home DLC for LBP3 last night. It only cost me £3 but I still couldn't help feeling disappointed by it. It's only got three main levels, of the usual high quality and inventiveness you'd expect. But the rest of the content is filler. Poor showing for a series that has had some great DLC like the Marvel Level Pack.

Looks like the much delayed No Man's Sky has been delayed yet again. It was due in June but Kotaku are reporting it might now be July/August at the earliest.
EDIT: Now confirmed for August 9th, further delays notwithstanding.

Played the Doom demo that was released recently, and hated it! The style of gameplay is just so alien to me now. Health packs? What the hell?! And its just so fast. It was like having to drop all FPS learning I've ever done, and go back to pure basics. I didn't really like it at all, and can't really be bothered to get back to that style of shooting and get used to that game. It looked good, though, and by going back to basics felt like such a fresh and different shooter to what we have these days, just not for me.

I love the gameplay in Doom! It is all about managing the chaos displayed on screen. But yeah I agree that rather than being revolutionary it is a nice back to basics approach that feels really fresh when put alongside the likes of CoD et al.Wolvieware wrote:Played the Doom demo that was released recently, and hated it! One thing I have realised is that I find it painful to play when I first get up in the morning. I usually have a 30-60min window were I have a chance to play some games before leaving for work but I can't play Doom. The speed of it strains my sleepy eyes too much! I either have to wait for my morning coffee to kick in or leave playing it until the weekend.
Re: Random game chat
I really struggled with the Doom gameplay at first, it is so different from modern fps games. But then it clicked. And it became less of a shooting game, more of a puzzle game based on managing the crowds, different enemy types, the environment and choosing when to go in for the glory kill. It kind of reminded me of Hotline Miami in many ways too.

I really liked the new Doom. It did drag on a bit towards the end and get a bit repetitive but it was a lot of fun. Like Wolfenstein: The New Order it was a good, old school FPS with a good single player campaign. Liked the end Bosses too.

The future of the last remaining decent gaming magazine, remember those, GamesTM and our old stomping ground the NOWGamer website looks uncertain as Imagine Publishing has been bought by Future Publishing in a deal valued at £14.2 million. Future already has Edge and GamesMaster so it's unlikely they'll want a third multiformat games mag.

Re: Random game chat
I dunno if they all target a different sort of audience then it should be ok.megablast16 wrote:The future of the last remaining decent gaming magazine, remember those, GamesTM and our old stomping ground the NOWGamer website looks uncertain as Imagine Publishing has been bought by Future Publishing in a deal valued at £14.2 million. Edge - for a more businessy look at things
GamesTM - for the core market
GamesMaster - for the mainstream
Re: Random game chat
That's interesting. I guess with the declining market it was easier for Future to cannibalise any competition.megablast16 wrote:The future of the last remaining decent gaming magazine, remember those, GamesTM and our old stomping ground the NOWGamer website looks uncertain as Imagine Publishing has been bought by Future Publishing in a deal valued at £14.2 million. Re: Random game chat
I think that's sad news as Imagine are a great publisher in their own right and deserve to be their own brand on the market.
However as anyone seen GamesTM recently? Thinned down to only 116 pages and missing a lot of content. So clearly dying out anyway.

Really want to play the new Batman Telltale game, but that £25 price has put me off! Don't think I've ever paid more than a tenner for one of their series before so will wait for the sale.

I picked it up and played the first episode and it did not disappoint. They've made big improvements on their character models and animations. If the rest of the series keeps this high quality then it will be £25 very well spent for me.
Re: Random game chat
I played pretty much the first episode of everything they had done and then went on to play the rest all the way up to Game of Thrones then I just didnt enjoy that one at all and it put me off..... I wasnt tottally sure if the story just wasnt gripping or if id had to much of that kind of thing or exactly what my isssue was.

Re: Random game chat
Anyone else play the Titanfall 2 Tech Test this weekend? I've never played it before so this was my first taste of Titanfall and I was a little disappointed. I didn't think it was as revolutionary and unique as I think media and reviews made it sound. It's just another shooter with a robot gimmick. The Titans don't take up that much of a match. But it is a good game still and I actually came top of my team in both of the matches I've played so I seemed ok at it. Maybe because I actually defended objectives when others went for kills? Anyone my interest for Titanfall 2 has waned a little after playing this although the addition of single player campaign is intriguing.

Re: Random game chat
So random game news for me:
I've ditched Assetto Corsa. It was utter crap and I really found it I enjoyable. I tried to stick with it completing the novice events and moving on to intermediate but I wasn't having any fun so it can go.
I've downloaded Journey from the PlayStation Plus line up this month. I was never appealed by it, but it is well regarded so I'm happy to give it a try now it's free, plus I hear it's not very long.
I also picked up The Last of Us: Left Behind standalone version for PS4 as its only £4 in the current sale.

Re: Random game chat
Hey lookit it did a semi-cool thing in Overwatch rather than my usual bumbling around the map!
Re: Random game chat
Finished Layers of Fear: Imheritance DLC last night. It was a bit disappointing and short. The main game has a much better idea and plot. It was fun to get a different perspective of the story from the daughters point of view, it just wasn't that much fun to play.
