Re: The Assassin's Creed Mega-Thread
It appears that Ubisoft are keeping the Xbox One and PS4 versions of Unity on the same level graphically which is sort of a stupid thing to do.
While I'm not overly fussed about the graphical arms race that refuses to die. Intentionally holding back your game on specific platforms is weird. It's like having a crappy PC port which happens all the time and which everyone always hates.
At least the PC community tend to mod games to get them working to acceptable levels for them. PS4 users will just have to sit there playing the game knowing that it could be just that little bit better.

I don't like Ubisoft's stance on this, surely a third party developer should be aiming to get the maximum performance out of any given platform, not downgrade one version just to achieve parity across all platforms and keep the peace.

I'm guessing that a nice fat brown envelope from Microsoft HQ probably made this decision a little easier for Ubisoft.

Re: The Assassin's Creed Mega-Thread
According to Ubisoft the frame rate being locked at 30fps is due to the limitations of the CPU's, which is fair enough, I wasn't expecting 60fps anyway. The resolution parity however seems to be purely a political decision to avoid "the heated debates." Didn't really work did it.

Re: The Assassin's Creed Mega-Thread
Apparently this is now being denied and there were no platform specific restrictions made.

TBF, Unity sounded like fucking shit anyway. However, let's hope this isn't the start of a slippery slope.

Re: The Assassin's Creed Mega-Thread
I'm playing Black Flag (still....) and want to start mission 8. When I go to the start point, it says I should upgrade my ship before starting this mission.
Now my ship isn't bad. It's at 70% weapons and armour, 83% storage and 88% harpooning. It's a pretty damn good ship. I'm missing the highest upgrade for just a few items (because its too expensive), plus a few that I need to unlock through treasure maps.
Does anyone know how good your ship needs to be before starting mission 8?

Not sure as it's been a long time since I played it but I think your need to upgrade your heavy shot, broadside cannons and mortar to a certain level.

Re: The Assassin's Creed Mega-Thread
I had the 'upgrade' message before a couple of missions and got thru fine, if challenging. If you've a decent strength on your shot and broadside cannon and two or three tiers of armour, you'll be fine.
A good mission!

Re: The Assassin's Creed Mega-Thread
Hmmm, I was wondering, because my ship is very close to max. Getting those last few items of upgrades is taking effort to find the upgrade plans, and then requiring vast resources and money to build. It doesn't seem like something Ubisoft would do to limit a mid-game mission to fully upgraded ships. I want to get fully upgraded - I'm nearly there! - it's just that I don't know if I can be bothered to farm the environment for resources.
Maybe I'll just do what Soren said, and just play the mission anyway, despite the message. It is a bit of an obscure message too.

From what you've said, your ship is plenty fine to do this mission

Re: The Assassin's Creed Mega-Thread
I've got it....if I ever get around to it is another question. I bought the season pass, and think its been quite good value - Freedom Cry, multiplayer packs, plus lots of customisation options/weapons/clothes, plus three bonus islands to explore on the map. I have been wanting to try out the multiplayer too, but just everytime I put the game on I just dick around in the open world. I've wasted so many hours doing so.

I ignored the ship upgrade message wolvie - just did that mission the other day. Got through it relatively unscathed.

Cool. I will just play it then. But Alien Isolation has actually sunk my attention away from this game for once!

Anyone getting the Unity? Apparently the performance is awful on all platforms.

Re: The Assassin's Creed Mega-Thread
I've been reading some reviews, a mixed bag but the general consensus seems to be it's OK but not great. I wasn't planning on buying it anyway unless it turned out to be great, so I'll probably pass.

I'm getting it. It's not been sent yet though. I want to play the coop.

Re: The Assassin's Creed Mega-Thread
I think Ubisoft need to let AC as a franchise have a year or two break then bring it back, reimagined and reinvigorated. I get that people love it but for me AC:IV aside it is just the same thing in a different skin each time with little improvement to it.
Re: The Assassin's Creed Mega-Thread
Considering that I (among others) thought Black Flag was f'ing brilliant and the considerably less-popular opinion of my even getting a lot of enjoyment from ACIII, I haven't given the slightest thought to getting either of the latest two games, so I'll happily pass them up.
It may seem strange to give up on a franchise when it appears to be in the ascendency (based on my personal taste) but without the presence of a historical era that interests me there's little to entice me to tolerate the long-stale gameplay that the series boasts. Also, fuck co-op

Yes I think the setting is a bit uninspiring. I think the last gen Rogue game looks far more interesting. But the next gen game and the coop won me over to choose Unity.
