The Assassin's Creed Mega-Thread
So Assassin's Creed: Unity has announced that it will include microtransactions. Ubisoft haven't mentioned how they will be implemented.

I'm guessing that the potential income from two Assassin's Creed games as well as Far Cry 4 isn't quite enough for them

Re: The Assassin's Creed Mega-Thread
Micro transactions in a full priced retail game does put me off but if it is for cosmetic items only I have no problem with it.
Re: The Assassin's Creed Mega-Thread
if its stuff you can ignore like a different colored hood or such its not so bad.... one of the issues I have with games though is in the old days you were always unlocking things from skill and now that's gone a lot of the time and replaced with the whole micro transaction , pay for extra characters sort of thing

What about cheat codes?! They were huge fun back in the day. Now they no longer exist.

Re: The Assassin's Creed Mega-Thread
Completed the first Assassins Creed which I thought was ridiculously dull. People told me to stick with it as the second really improved.
Played about half of the second one before giving up as also thought that it was ridiculously dull as well.
This shall therefore be my only contribution to this thread.

The microtransactions have been confirmed to be for customisation gear but can also be unlocked in-game too. I'm still not thinking this is great though as I just feel they will artificially lengthen the time it takes to unlock to coerce people into buying it instead.

Re: The Assassin's Creed Mega-Thread
I've been playing ACIV again recently. I got it the day the Ps4 was released and played it for a while, thinking it good. I then stopped (got Xcom Enemy Within for Xmas), taking it up again in the spring before being sidetracked once more. But in my latest stint, I've grown to love the game.
I've got a feeling I haven't had since ACII - that the world is a place where I do a bunch of things, some of which are related to the central narrative but that central narrative isn't really central, it's just one of a number of things that I can do. This is more like real life - there are a bunch of things I do in real life, but there is no central narrative. We all live in the sandpit! Tbh, I have little idea what the central story is even about (but that is often the case in AC games ).
I'd just done a bit where an NPC dies and then went off for 3-4 hours doing side quests, taking forts, searching for treasure etc . The next time I touch the story, other NPCs are reminiscing over the dead NPC and I'm like "oh him - that was ages ago in my own narrative!"
I'm shortly off on holiday, so will lose touch with ACIV again but I hope to pick it up again on my return and finish before the next big game comes along

Not that interested in Unity anyway, I've had my fill of AC games for a while.

Re: The Assassin's Creed Mega-Thread
I too have also been playing AC4 and I got it for Christmas too. I played it a bit then and fell in love with it but stopped playing because I didn't want it to end so quickly...but then it got promptly forgotten as I played other games. But recently I've been getting into it again and thinking this could be one of my favourite games ever.
It's just as complete a world as I can imagine. Plus it looks stunning. A two hour session has recently had me doing maybe one main mission then sailing around a bit, fighting a ship, landing on a desert island and finding buried treasure, getting collectibles, fulfilling an assassin side mission then finishing off with sorting out my fleet.
Even just sailing and listening to sea shanties is a joy.
I've climbed and fought, drank rum at a bar until I fell unconscious, explored islands and forts and caves, dives for ship wrecks and what's brilliant is that on the map I still have lots of unmarked locations I've still yet to explore.
It's fantastic. It doesn't feel like typical AC. It should get a Black Flag series of all it's own as this is quite possibly my favourite game ever.

Pretty much the same as I feel, despite loving Black Flag and enjoying ACIII more than most.

On Black Flag, I even like (really like) the fleet stuff, which is the type of tangential micro management stuff that I'm usually not interested in.
Might come to be my favourite Ass Creed game (currently ACII).

Re: The Assassin's Creed Mega-Thread
Assassin's Creed: Unity has been delayed by a couple of weeks and will now be out on November 13th, the same day as last gen AC game, Rogue. The usual fine tuning has been given as the reason, although what difference two weeks will make I don't know.

Re: The Assassin's Creed Mega-Thread
I've seen games go from horrible broken messes into fully functioning titles in the last two weeks of madness. It makes all the difference.megablast16 wrote:Assassin's Creed: Unity has been delayed by a couple of weeks and will now be out on November 13th, the same day as last gen AC game, Rogue. And yet, even after the delay, it will still have a day one patch.

Re: The Assassin's Creed Mega-Thread
This extra two weeks will be for that Day One Patch.megablast16 wrote:And yet, even after the delay, it will still have a day one patch.
The base game will be near enough ready to ship in a very broken form right now with the major bugs still being present. So there will be some more polish on that before it gets sent off for discs to be made.
Discs need to be printed ahead of time and then distributed. Patches can be worked on right up to release day. So I would expect something similar to what we saw with AC4 were the reviewers had a more broken version of the game code without 1080p resolution and the day one patch fixed a bunch of bugs and added full HD support.
People talk about Day One Patches like they are a bad thing but more often than not they allow a dev team to hit their release date (key for securing those much sort after bonus checks!) and improve upon the game code so that the game is way more stable.

Tough titties if you're not connected online with your console then...
Still I guess most people are these days.

Re: The Assassin's Creed Mega-Thread
I used to have a friend with no online connection who lived in a one bedroom flat a few streets away from me... Every few weeks he would put his 360 in a bag and come up to mine and plug it in to my telly with my wires etc just to get everything up to date etc .... I remember his horror over the original xbox one needs to be online once a day thing lol
It does suck for those without internet but id hope that most people have a buddy who would let them do the above if it was an important patch etc

Re: The Assassin's Creed Mega-Thread
I love Black Flag. The more I play it, the more I love it. I've not even completed half the story missions yet, as I just get sucked in with sailing, and looting, and treasure hunting, and collecting, or enjoying simply sailing with some sea shanties. Plus it looks gorgeous. I took this video from my last play session. Although seven minutes, I think it sums up perfectly, the appeal of visiting each island, having a look around. From sailing to the island, to climbing to its highest point for the view, to looting some treasure chests, to watching some dolphins, and then, in my opinion, a brilliantly classic explosive last shot at the end, I feel this video truly sums up the game's appeal.
And thanks to the PS4's Share option, this was ridiculously easy to upload! I might even do some more from other games I'm currently playing. (Just imagine capturing that amazing last shot on Peggle 2, and then posting the video!)

Re: The Assassin's Creed Mega-Thread
So I've been back on Black Flag, and I happened to hack into a computer in a present day level of the game. I'm sure I'm not the only one to have done this, as it's one of the few things you can do in the present day, but thought I'd share it in case people had skipped it. The computers are collectible items which tell different aspects of AC, and this is an email chain from some people making a (fictitious) historical game, but it might give an idea, naturally, of what Ubi might be taking the series. As you can see, the current games locations and periods are already mentioned, but a few more, including the upcoming French Revolution...
