To mark the Playstation's 20th anniversary Sony have produced a very limited edition original Playstation themed PS4 with matching controller and camera, each one is adorned with an individual numbered plaque and only 12,300 will be available.

Looks pretty cool!

Yeah collectors will pay a lot for one of these. Apparently they'll be available for pre-order from this Saturday in North America and Japan, Sony Europe have said they'll announce details of how to get one over here soon but it won't be through retail channels. With only 12,000 worldwide though they'll be gone in seconds!

For those who don't want to shell out for a whole new console there is a pretty snazzy retro PS1 theme to download for free!

Details of the 2.50 firmware have been revealed:

Check out some of the other highly requested, new features and changes coming soon in “Yukimura”:

Sub-account to master account upgrade: Users with a sub-account will now be able to upgrade to a master account directly from their PS4 when they turn 18, removing restrictions for chat, enabling users to fund their own wallet, make purchases and more. Currently, users can upgrade their sub-accounts online.

Facebook friend search: Gamers globally have jumped into PS4 as a redefined social gaming experience and connecting with friends over the network is a huge part of what makes the PS4 community so special. PlayStation now lets you go even bigger by connecting with your Facebook friends on PS4 using your linked account. Search for Facebook friends who are PSN members and build on the foundation of Friends you already have in your list.

Remote Play & Share Play at 60 fps*2: The ability to customise the frame rate of Remote Play and Share Play will be added with “Yukimura”. Play to your bandwidth strengths and use this option to stream gameplay at 60 or 30 fps when using Remote Play or Share Play

Accessibility Options: “Yukimura” introduces a wide variety of options to make the PS4 entertainment experience even more accessible. Options include text to speech, enlarged text, bolder fonts, higher contrast UI, zoom for displayed pictures, invert colours on screen and more. Users will also be able to reassign buttons for DUALSHOCK 4, making it easier for users with limited manual dexterity or limited reach and strength to play

Trophy Improvements: We have received a tonne of feedback to improve Trophies. In “Yukimura”, a screenshot will automatically be captured at the moment a Trophy is earned, making it easier than ever for you to share your greatest gaming moments with your friends. We’re also adding more sorting options along with the new ability to remove games from the Trophy list that have 0% completion

Share Video Clips to Dailymotion: When sharing standout PS4 moments via the Share button on DualShock 4, “Yukimura” will allow players to upload directly to Dailymotion.

Stay tuned for more information on “Yukimura” and, as always, let us know in the comments how we can continue to improve PS4 to make it the best place to play.

*1 Dependant on software titles
*2 Supported devices need to enjoy Share Play and Remote Play features.
Liking the Facebook Friends searching and auto-screenshot when you unlock a Trophy

I believe it also adds Suspend/Resume Cal. This allows you to put your PS4 into Rest Mode and then go straight back into a game exactly where you left off just by pressing the PS button on the controller. It is dependent on the game rather than a universal feature, but most games are expected to support it.

I am honestly not fussed about that feature! It will be handy but it is not exactly a priority for me.

Fuck 0% trophies!

What about notifying when friends come on line? Sorting trophies in date order?

Basic stuff that PS3 even has.

Yeah, the suspend/resume feature will make the PS4 into a giant Vita and by that I mean it lends itself to "just 5 minutes" game playing ;-)

Having used it for a few weeks now, suspend resume is absolutely brilliant. It really feels like an advancement in tech. I was expecting some sort of boot screen for for ten or so seconds but it really is almost instant.

How does it compare to the Xbox's version as I've not tried that?

Xbox One version works fine. Used it once. Don't really see the point personally. I have no use for it. If I'm switching off, I'm switching off.

Also uses a fuck load more electricity.

So it's finally happened...

I've run out of memory on my ps4 Sad

It's actually taken longer than expected though as I kept a clean ship, but with more incomplete games are being added to my library the less space I've got.

My question is what to do. Can anyone point me to the best hard drive to get? Is changing it over easy? And what do I do to transfer my saves and content?

It depends on how much storage you want really. I stuck a 1TB Hybrid HDD in mine over a year ago and I am just about reaching capacity on that.

In general:

  • Old style disc based HDDs will be the cheaper option but won't give you improved performance.
  • SSD drives will give you the best performance but are more expensive for less storage.
  • Hybrid drives are in the middle ground and give you the best of both.

EuroGamer have a really good guide that they keep updated with the latest drives to get: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-how-to-cheaply-upgrade-your-ps4-to-2tb

As for installing it. It is super easy. Just swap out the drives and let the PS4 do the work. PS+ Cloud storage is your friend when it comes to save data but I would recommend using a large capacity USB stick to get everything so you can quickly load it onto your new HDD. Also don't forget to grab all your saved Share Button media. Finally ever you can't backup game installs so be prepared to download/re-install all of your games.

Thanks Cal. I read the article, but a lot of it I don't care about. The whole, this game loads four seconds faster on this hard drive compared to this one, doesn't interest me. It's the valuable space I need.

An amazon search showed me this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00I8O6OQ4/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=NDHBF2GIA6KK&coliid=I13N1BFJI4Q0GE&psc=1

do you think this is a decent one to get?

Getting the thing inside the PS4 is going to be another thing. I might have to watch some videos. I'm a little worried, cos the PS3 was a bit of a bitch when I tried to upgrade it, and this seems equally awkward.

I haven't swapped my hard drive out yet but I will probably do it next year. I think any 9.5mm/2.5 inch SATA HDD is compatible as long as it's maximum 2TB, but the one you linked looks a good choice. As cal said I don't think it's too hard to carry out the procedure and copying saves to a USB stick beforehand is the best thing to do. This is a good video showing you how to do it, just skip to about 8 minutes for the actual process though. Just remember you need to put your PS4 in "safe mode" when installing the firmware after swapping the drives, you do this by holding the power button for about 7-8 seconds (you should hear two beeps) then connect the controller with a USB cable and press the PS button.

The Samsung HDD you listed should be good, lots of space and good build quality.

Installing it is way simpler than on the PS3. Just slide off the cover. Then unscrew the bracket for the HDD, remove those screws, take out the old HDD, put in the new one, screw it in, insert it into the console screw in the bracket. Then finally like megablast said, boot it in safe mode to install the PS4 Firmware.
