The Battlefield thread
The last DLC details:
Featured in Final Stand will be a number of “secret prototype weapons and vehicles”, including a “Battle pick-up rail gun that fires a single round of powerful kinetic energy”, and a pretty ace sounding hover tank prototype, which “uses eight experimental jet propulsion engines to nimbly move around the battlefield.”
The new maps are called Operation Whiteout, Hammerhead, Giants of Karelia and Hangar 21.

Straw poll: Who's interested in Hardline?
Me? Not really. I'll get it when it's cheap, maybe on PC rather than console this time.

I can't wait!! If the single player is better than BF3 and 4 (not an achievement) then that will be a bonus but the MP was brilliant fun in the beta and the video above just looks so much fun!
Re: The Battlefield thread
I think I'll go PS4 on this one, possibly X1. My PC buddies are not interested. But I enjoyed the beta too.

Not interested in Hardline. The beta played like Payday which I didn't enjoy. I might pick it up down the line when cheaper but more for single player interest than online ( which by the time I get the game id be hopelessly outclassed anyway)

The Final Stand DLC is out today, if anyone other than Marky plays this too? Whopping 6gb though!

Re: The Battlefield thread
Played the new map pack today and found it rather disappointing. There was one good map with a snowy mountain with a bunker under it, a mediocre map which was a tall ski slope type map then two rather large flabby wastelands of ice which were not that much fun to travers. As a Final Stand, they should have just waved the White flag!

Just wanted to share this amazing picture, of tonight's game. You cannot get a narrower win! And it looks like Marky got that final important kill...!

Played a bit of the Hardline beta and it locked my PS4 up so hard I had to pull the power cable out to get the console back. I think I'll leave it for now. The game was alright but I wasn't really feeling it.

Re: The Battlefield thread
I cannot believe Hardline actually exists. It looks awful, the premise is laughable, the weapon balancing in the beta is horrendous and it's basically a glorified expansion pack. I can't understand why anyone would want to play this over a full Battlefield title, unless you've played those to death. It's a massive flop pre-orders/sales wise at the moment and deservedly so I think.

Re: The Battlefield thread
My issue with it after playing the original beta is that it felt like Kane and Lynch or Payday. Both of which were awful.

Re: The Battlefield thread
That's a shame. Doesn't feel like either of those games to me, not even close. I get where you're coming from though.
Re: The Battlefield thread
So Battlefield 5 is actually called...Battlefield 1?
It will be set during WW1. A unique setting, I guess, but I am struggling to see what they can bring to that that we haven't really seen before.
So far I'm not sold on it, and will need to be convinced - it's not really interesting me just yet.
And I think that title is just confusing! Battlefield WW1 would make more sense.
And in truth, I'm still annoyed they're not announcing Bad Company 3 still, because that's the game everyone really wants!

Re: The Battlefield thread
I'm interested to see what they do with the setting but I get the feeling they are going to take a lot of liberties with the weaponry, rate of fire and tech of the time!
There's potential to have a really focused singleplayer campaign that highlights the horror of war typically associated with WWI but I wonder if EA/Dice would go down that road.

Re: The Battlefield thread
Having now watched the trailer a few times and heard a bit more info I'm actually quite excited about this.
I'm glad it's not another modern FPS. Given the attention to detail that DICE provide in terms of graphics and especially sound a move back to older wartime will make for a great experience.
It'll be the first proper BF on the new consoles and also from DICE themselves rather than the interim Hardline that was developed by Visceral and mostly sucked.
Lots to be positive about.

Re: The Battlefield thread
Played the Alpha on Sunday.
Got 2/3 hours on it, ultra settings @2.5K, and here are my thoughts on the alpha version.
Looks like they've used the same engine as Star Wars Battlefront, possible the graphics are not quite up to that standard but are pretty close but with that said there is alot more players and alot more 'stuff' going on. The graphics are superb overall.
This map is a triumph, the Objectives are spread out and designed with multiple route options available. See a tank, just flank the other way around. However be wary that enemies seem to come from any direction, you always have to watch your back. It can be difficult to lock down a position because of this.
This BF feels different. The movement is or at least feels faster, slicker and lighter than any other BF before it, this might change but I doubt it. This is a game of rushing objectives in force and it creates the right balance between Infantry and Armoured Vehicles. AVs are deadly and rightly so, BUT there easily avoided due to your pace AND it only takes a couple of anti tank grenades to disable them and hit the right spot will destroy them altogether. As there are alot who like to play as assault (read anti tank) then this really isnt much of an issue.
The classes are very different in the way they play out, most notably the Medic class. The medic is given medium range weaponry yet his services are required at the frontline, this causes an issue as the frontline are dominated by assault class with their smgs! The medics can no longer fight at the front the way they did in BFs of old. You need to think and plot your routes carefully. This may change in the final game where you may be able to unlock more CQB orientated weaponry.
The best thing that BF1 does is create atmosphere, BF3 and BF4 were more like conflicts rather than battles, this map tested in BF1 is War, make no mistake about that and its so much better for it. Its not the stale mate of war either, its the holy shit were fighting for our lives war. Dirt is flying, walls are tumbling, bullets are flying and you have the rumble of overhead planes doing there thing. IF the rest of the maps can keep the atmosphere of this going then we are in for a treat.
Tl:Dr Version: Going of the one map played...its epic and shouldnt be missed.

Like the sound of that last paragraph. I think that's what Bad Company achieved and the most recent efforts have failed to achieve.
