I really liked Prometheus, I think mainly because I went into it expecting more of the same as the other Alien films and not the second coming of movie Jesus Very Happy

Prometheus was OK, I think most people were expecting a direct prequel to Alien and a similar kind of movie, even though Ridley Scott said in every interview it wasn't.

But it was and it wasn't. I'd rather they do a completely unrelated movie than put in stupid little obscure references. It was more like Ridley didnt want to admit to making an actual Alien movie and just put in small moments to appease fanboys. He might have made a better movie if he had just decided to do a direct prequel.

And some surprisingly low ones, IGN and Gamespot stick out. I'm not saying they're wrong because obviously I haven't played it yet but I was just a bit thrown reading NOWGamer's 9/10 then going to IGN and seeing 5.9.

I had a read of the low score ones. Nothing particularly scathing and seemed like valid points such as the game feeling too long. I can imagine it's similar to how I felt about Outlast in that the scary aspect became quite repetitive toward the end of the game.

Despite IGNs low score their actual review made me stupidly excited!

Watch their 'is Alien Isolation' scary?' video. That made me excited about the game for some reason!

I won't get this on release but soon after I'm sure.

I wonder if the variability in scores is related to how invested the reviewer is in the franchise. As is probably apparent, I'm a fanboy (wearing an Aliens-inspired tee today, actually), so I reckon it's a safe bet for me. I've preordered thru Game but won't be able to get to the store on the actual day of release. Possibly the day after but I've more hope for Friday.

End this Yankee madness of Ā midweek releases!

That's the problem with reviews, they're supposed to be objective but I'm not convinced they are much these days which is why I take no notice of scores.

Woo got my game today! Installing now, but thought I'd try the download code included for DLC as well as I was waiting. It tells me my code is invalid. Could this be because release date is tomorrow? Otherwise, I've been duped!

Got my copy today Wolvie, release day, can't redeem my DLC code either so God knows what's going on.Ā  confused

EDIT: Did a quick check around and it's the same for everybody, it seems to be a PSN thing and they just haven't switched on the codes yet or whatever it is they do to make the content available Rolling Eyes. We'll just have to try again later.

Don't worry - I've not had a chance to play it yet! And probably won't until the weekend, so what is the point of a mid week release??!

EDIT: I've managed to use my DLC code now.

The default release date in the US is Tuesday, I believe. Friday seems to work much better to me - pick it up on your way home from work, then play all weekend Smile

Yeah the codes are finally working. I've only played about an hour so I've barely scratched the surface but I've enjoyed what bit I have played, the atmosphere is excellent and Alien fans will be in dreamland with all the original music motifs, sound and visual cues. Looks good too, and I've still got my first meeting with the Alien to look forward to Shocked.

One weird thing though is the cut scenes, they're very juddery, as though the frame rate keeps dropping, you'll see what I mean when you play it. It's no biggie just a bit odd why they are in this state as the frame rate in the actual game is pretty smooth.

Fortunately, mine has now worked.

I've redeemed my code now but I haven't played the DLC yet, from what I've heard Crew Expendable is a nice bit of fan service but not that substantial and can be completed in about 15 mins. The main game itself is pretty long though so I guess it's OK as long as you look at it as a bonus.

Experienced my first game of cat and mouse with the Alien today, incredibly tense and nerve wracking and then sheer panic when it spots you. affraid

Whether the game can maintain that tension throughout the game remains to be seen but the first few times are brilliant, watching the creature stomp past as you cower under a table is spine tingling and it looks awesome in the game.

Apprently the Last Survivor DLC mission (Game exclusive) is not very good. There's a complete playthrough of the DLC here, that clocks in at only 15 mins. I might just watch this...

GameCentral reviewed both pieces of DLC on Wednesday and they said Last Survivor was the better of the two so that doesn't say a lot for Crew Expendable. They're both only about 15 mins long apparently.
