Played some Super Mario Ball, interesting concept but had no idea what was going on for part of it.

Now playing Mad Max. And do you know what, it might be THE unsung game of 2015. I've only played a small part of it so far - Act 1, and the small opening area. I've just jumped into the wider world (literally), and now the game is expanding. The story is simple, collect parts to upgrade your car, so you can defeat the gang boss, but its actually quite engaging. And it's got those map makers that just tempt you to go look at them. Based on my opening play, I can't really give this game any bigger compliment than to say it is a vehicular Tomb Raider, and just as good as you would expect from that comparison.

Finally someone else on here has discovered the hidden delights of Mad Max. I played it a few months back and loved it, and it gets better and better. You're right, the most underrated game of the year for me, certainly the most unexpectedly good game.

It is a brilliant game! The camps are excellent and the constant improvement of your car is very satisfying.

When you get caught in a storm it's terrifying too!
Anyway with Mad Max in mind I'm now playing another Avalanche game, Just Cause 3. To be honest I was in two minds as the reviews have been mediocre and it's technical issues well discussed but I decided to take the plunge.
I've only played a little bit but it does look like it's going to be a lot of fun - the very first thing you do is stand on top of an airplane in flight taking out missile launchers with an RPG! - the grappling hook/wingsuit/parachute combo system is also brilliant! You also get a free download of Just Cause 2, playable on XB1 via backward compatibility. It is a bit rough around the edges graphically though and doesn't seem as well polished as Mad Max. It also has some frequent and very long load times and they do break up the flow of the game. There's already a day one patch available but hopefully more will be released to smooth the game out a bit and improve load times as it does have a lot of potential.

Playing The Banner Saga on my laptop when I get the chance during my commute. I love this game! One of my favourite CRPGs of the past few years
It is also finally being released on PS4 in the New Year!

Re: Now Playing
Now playing Driveclub Bikes and it's brilliant. Honestly from shaky starts DC has become one of the best things about PS4 and Bikes is another great addition. It changes the game completely. Handling is fantastically arcadey, and there's a real sensation of speed. Bikes has harder AI as well, that really goes for you at corners. The new skills game mode is really good fun too. It does adapt to the current tracks from the cars version but they do feel differently Bikes, as you have to relearn them to suit the handling. My only disappointment? I can't knock DC for its content. It's a very generous game with so many events and championships it never feels like the end is sight it is wonderful. However, although it is another huge chunk of game I did think there would be a bit more championships to bikes. A minor criticism perhaps, as the game will still take hundreds of hours to complete it seems.

Re: Now Playing
Now playing MotoGP 16. I really enjoy the series and have played the last two entries as well. I like the simulation gameplay and that it challenges you. But having just been playing DriveClub Bikes, this year MotoGP has suddenly felt very lacking. The graphics are a long way off, and it's not got the speed or immediacy that DCB has. Also, to be honest, it's EXACTLY the same as last years with a 15 in the title. Pretty poor to be honest but I think I will get some entertainment out of it before trading it in I think.

Re: Now Playing
Now playing Deadpool on PS4. I'm very much looking forward to the new movie out next month and saw this for £20 so went for it. I've played the first two chapters and it's pretty good. It's got the character down well, with humour and 4th wall breaking. The graphics are nothing special for a PS3 game ported across, not like Uncharted which had an obvious upgrade. The gameplay is a little bit awkward. The hack n slash stuff is great and easy to pick up but the shooting is a bit fiddly. I don't think it is a terribly long game however, but I think I will enjoy what's there.

It mainly adds things into the end of the game, like the actual ending rather than the abrupt and confusing mess of the original release.kerr9000 wrote:Playing Knights of the Old republic 2 with the content restored patch, its so awesome as a game but havent noticed anything different.

Re: Now Playing
Now playing F1 2015. It's been a few years since I last played this series, so its good to be back, and see if there were any changes. That said, F1 2013 was not that great with the modern day interpretation of the sport, but included a superb Retro section of classic F1 cars that was worth the admission price alone. F1 2012 still remains my favourite entry. So it was a bit of a shock to see 2015, the first next gen version, with its new menu layout...missing half of the options. There's literally Championship, Quick Race, Time Trial and Online. That's it! Stripped back to the basics completely.
I want to hold off doing a championship until the new season starts, and I will follow the real season with my own in-game one, probably using full length races to get the best experience. I'm quite happy there is no career, as that was always a boring slog. So this time you don't need to create a racer to upgrade and level up, you just select a real F1 driver. I'm debating whether to go Hamilton so I can win, or Button and see if I can reverse his fortunes! But this is one mode where the stripped back actually is a positive, as the old career mode was dull. It's basic here, but at least it won't waste your time with needless things.
So today I decided to go to quick race and complete a few races. And that's where the good stuff is. The graphics really are stunning - its never looked this good, or felt this smooth to play. It's seamless, and flows and is a joy to drive these cars. It's so well done. Of course difficulty is all customisable, and the addition of the race director is really good, keeping track of incidents. It's done a really good job of making you really feel like you are in a F1 race, with tactics, and style. It's just a shame there's so few modes. Not much to really keep you playing here, apart from the fact if you like F1 and fancy a blast round the classic tracks in the ultimate car. Will keep me going a bit but can only really recommend for the F1 hardcore.

Re: Now Playing
Game Dev Tycoon is my current laptop game and it is quit good fun. Think of it as Theme Game Developer and you're on the right track. I'm loving the references and how it follows the same path as the actual industry. I'm currently in the NES/Master System era and making a small fortune making PC RPGs and Simulation games for the more mature market.
It is a very simplified representation though. One that softens some of the harsher edges of real life game dev but if you're interested in seeing how the basic flow of it works it does a good job.

Re: Now Playing
I have returned to Dragon Quest IX on the DS after not playing it since late 2012, really did not realise that it had been that long.
I'm going to spend about an hour a day grinding/levelling up until I'm high enough to finally kill the last boss.

Re: Now Playing
I saw a trailer and feel in love with the art and tone so I am currently playing Aviary Attorney and loving it!
It is basically Phoenix Wright but in 19th Century Paris and with talking animals. The art and the writing are superb and I am having a blast playing and laughing loudly at the same time. It is full of puns and smart plays on words with the odd intensionally bad joke thrown in for good measure.

Re: Now Playing
Now playing God of War III Remastered. It's awesome! For some reason I don't remember playing this game on PS3 so replaying it now is almost like a new game. That opening is just epic beyond epic and it helps that the game really does look so good on PS4. Just brilliant. Thoroughly enjoying this and probably won't take long to finish.

I've been playing a lot of Mini Metro on Steam recently,
It is cool game about running metro lines around the world (London, Paris, New York, etc.). It is simple in its design but the puzzle of it gets quite complex as things get increasingly hectic.
Worth a look!
Re: Now Playing
Picked up a cheap copy of Tearaway Unfolded today, I've been meaning to get it for a while but never got round to it until now. Also got The Witness today, only played a bit so far but already been scratching my head over some of the puzzles, and I'm sure they get a lot, lot harder.

Re: Now Playing
The Witness is my current lunch break game and it works really well when played in 30-50min chunks. I am hoping to sit down and really get stuck into it at some point though. Loving the puzzles and how you slowly pick up the new mechanics for solving them by just exploring. It is brilliantly paced and you are constantly wanting to try on more puzzle before stoping.
Re: Now Playing
I've done 50 panels so far, it's an unusually relaxing game to play, even if you get stuck you can just walk away and explore a bit for clues, I usually find if you do get hopelessly stuck if you have a break you can solve a puzzle pretty quickly when you return to it. What I also like about it is that when you first start there is no set up, no explanation to who you are and why you're there, there are no NPC's, you just find yourself on this beautiful, mysterious island and you start solving puzzles to progress. I presume it will all make sense at the end though.

Trying out The Division beta.
It's a bit dull so far.
I should be liking many things about this game but it's just not clicking. Gonna persevere and play a bit more but not hopeful.

That's a shame I was hoping for it to be a alternative to Destiny but I've heard very mixed things.
