Sony Just Registered a 1TB PlayStation 4 Th?id=JN.7tqGRgJHEeRcCsdbILT6XA&pid=15

So Sony have just registered a 1TB PlayStation 4... Comapred to the current 500MB model this is twice the hard drive space. Apparently its a bit more complicated than that though sony have actually registerd two new model numbers for the PS4, the: CUH-1215A and  the CUH-1215B.

The  CUH-1215A model has a 500GB HDD capacity, while the CUH-1215B model has the increased 1TB HDD capacity. Apparently both of these systens are going to generate slightly fewer watts then the current model and are actually going to weigh a tiny bit less as well. The original is supposed to weigh 2.8kg and the new ones apparently weigh 2.5kg so its not a big difference. It doesnt sound like a proper redisgn just some minnor changes but I guess we will need to wait and see. Personally I would have launched a 1TB and 2TB version and let what ever stock of the old 500GB ones fill the low end gap until they run out.

I bought a 1TB hybrid hard drive already alongside my PS4 and installed it day one. I knew I'd chew through 500GB in no time because all games install to the internal drive whether they are PSN downloads or physical media, they both take up the same amount of internal storage. I've not regretted my purchase for a second.

I swapped mine out for a 1TB HDD last year, 500GB was never going to be enough in this day and age of mandatory installs, bigger game sizes and multi GB game patches, especially when you consider almost 20% of that 500 gig is reserved for system use. 1TB probably wont be enough in the long run either to be honest.

I know Sony went with a smaller HDD to save costs and keep the RRP down, but I'm surprised they didn't offer a more expensive 1TB option at launch. I'm sure it would have still sold well if you think how many people bought and installed a bigger HDD anyway, I'd have bought one.

I swapped mine out for a 2tb Hardrive and have to admit that even that doesnt seem like enough, its about half full now.  My xbox one has 500gb internal and a 500gb external drive and there both full now.... Hardrive space really is an issue this generation

Swapped my HDD for a 1TB one a while back and I'm happy with it.

I would have gone for a bigger version at launch. I've not upgraded yet, but haven't quite filled it up yet anyway.

Should really have launched with a 1TB option as others have stated although TBF that probably wouldn't have served us for too long either.

I stuck a 2TB upgrade in mine a couple of months back so hopefully that'll last a little while.

I think the bigger priority would be to give us a firmware update which would support external storage, if Microsoft can do it there's no reason Sony shouldn't be able to.

On the subject of storage they also really need to upgrade the fucking cloud storage on PSN, 1GB storage each for the PS3 and Vita is fine but just doesn't come close to cutting it for PS4 saves. In fact, I'll be really disappointed in them if they don't announce an increase of some sort at E3.

My online storage full already and I've had to delete some old saves a couple of times to make room.

Sony have officially unveiled it now, it will be available from 15th July and pricing will be decided by retailers. Apart from the 1TB HDD it will also be lighter, use less power and the hard drive cover now has a new matte instead of shiny finish.

EDIT: Bit of a mix up, the 1TB model is actually just a standard PS4 with a bigger hard drive. The other changes I listed above are for a new 500GB model presumably being released later in the year, seems a bit odd not to include the improvements in the 1TB model.
