Re: Doctor Who
Found Saturdays episode to be decent enough.
I kind of didn't think that Danny would die as I jokingly said to the partner that he had better be careful to not get run over, ooooops. Though I don't much care for the character it was quite sad seeing it from Clara's perspective on the phone.
It was annoying/a shame that the Cybermen had been announced as the enemies in advance as for viewers it made the build-up and all of the clues redundant as we already knew, unless you had managed to avoid it being revealed previously.
I'm not 100% convinced that Missy is the Master (I could and probably am wrong) but it seems to obvious and previous dialogue about the Doctor being her boyfriend now seem a little odd. Probably wrong but hey.

Re: Doctor Who
Yeah It was a shame they'd shoved cybermen down our throat in trailers as If they had just appeared the way they do in the episode it would have been a real ohhh wow moment.
I am hoping this is how Clara leaves....basically the Doc says "I care for you but cant trust you anymore so on your bike" once things are sorted.
I think Danny wont be dead dead... he will be sent back to his body before cremation or something ...everyone will think he has been in a coma and only the Doc and clara will know the truth

Re: Doctor Who
The reveal of the Cybermen was pretty good and I had managed to stay away from most of the trailers, etc. I also really liked the surprise of Missy being the Master. Which I'm sure will be explained in some convoluted way this weekend.
It's a good way to start introducing the idea that The Doctor could be a woman to the viewers of the show.

Re: Doctor Who
hate to sound like a raging anti feminist or anything but I just dont want the Doctor to be a woman.... heck I was annoyed the Master is now a woman as it just seems to make it even more likly we will never ever see the Rani again

Re: Doctor Who
Bit late in the day but I thought that the finale was hit and miss.
Some good moments like the Cybermen rising from the graves, the shock death of Osgood and possibly the bleakest ending for a companion since it came back (until the Christmas special).
Unfortunately it was balanced out with stuff like the Cybermen not actually doing anything, cyber pollen and the Cybermen being defeated by love again. In fact on reflection it probably would have been better if the Cybermen were just not in it.
Special mention has to go to two of the most useless guards in TV history.

It annoyed me that Osgood died ...Id sooner anyone, clara, kate etc
I liked the cyber Brig... thought that was a nice touch... I wanted a regeneration from simm to her though in a flashback or something.

Thoughts on the Christmas special?
Very hit and miss for me. Interesting concept (though also slightly done in Amy's Choice), creepy Facehugger type creatures (urgh) and good supporting characters including Santa.
Overall though it was a storyline that could have been told in the first episode of the next series as it was basically just a way to get Clara travelling again.

It was great until the Clara being old and on the verge of dying thing got reversed.... I really really hoped she was gone

Re: Doctor Who
I really enjoyed it and it was a good way to tie off all the loose thematic threads and Clara's story from the last series. Hopefully this means they will be going into the next series with a bit more bang and a little less mopy brooding from The Doctor and Clara.
Capaldi is really growing on me but his first year has been the weakest out of the modern Doctor's.

Rose first aired ten years ago on this date.

This makes me feel both old and happy
Who of thought the revival of Doctor Who would have lasted this long?

Re: Doctor Who
So what did people think of last nights episode?
I thought it was good. I knew nothing about the episode so was genuinely surprised with the beginning scene and thought it was a good build up for next week.

I loved it, I thought it was one of the best slices of Capaldi Doctor so far.

Re: Doctor Who
A good second part I thought.
Touching on stuff that has happened like Gallifrey returning and planting seeds for the future.

Re: Doctor Who
It was a strong two parter to open the new series with. Also liked how it has more of Moffat weaving in elements of the show's long history, updating them and giving them a new spin.
Re: Doctor Who
Really liked Under the Lake, quite tense and atmospherice.
Before the Flood I didn't think was a strong but still had good moments.

Re: Doctor Who
Bit of a silly romp episode like the Robin Hood last season until the last ten minutes which were interesting.

Should be watching this tonight! Looking forward to itdste01 wrote:Bit of a silly romp episode like the Robin Hood last season until the last ten minutes which were interesting.
Re: Doctor Who
It was the weakest episode of the series so far for me. A lot of interesting stuff happened in it and I really enjoyed tying it back to Ten's Pompeii adventure. But it had a lot of cheese in there which didn't really work as well as it usually does.dste01 wrote:What did you think?
Also despite the BBC ramming down my throat that Maisie "Did you know she is in Game of Thrones?!" Williams was in the episode she was really underused until the end of the episode where they setup Part 2 of the story.
Re: Doctor Who
Yeah, I thought that about Williams as well. I also thought why did no one think about checking on her and taking off the massive helmet that was pretty much covering her.
Next episode is supposed to be different in tone and has more conversation between her and the Doctor.

Re: Doctor Who
Apart from the Leandro subplot I quite liked The Woman Who Lived.
Same for The Zygon Invasion despite the social commentary slapping you in the face and the dumbass scene with the Unit soldiers outside the church.

I really enjoyed The Zygon Invasion and had no problems with the social commentary. It was obvious for a reason and The Doctor's throwaway line about people being afraid they'll take their benefits was spot on. It played on the wider public's misconceptions about immigration and redicalisation within minority groups. It was interesting to see it portrayed in such a way with things like the "No British" signs in the US set parts of the episode. The episode was also rammed with female characters which is great to see. Plus who knew Jenna Coleman could do hammy evil so well!
