New Tech and Gadgetery!
Got my shiny new iPhone 6 Plus last night!
The size is going to take some getting used to but I'm loving it. The display is mental and I finally have a phone I am happy to watch videos on. My commute to work has suddenly become filled with TV shows and cartoons
As for bending.... well I am overly careful with my gadgets anyway and I'm not a moron so I should be fine
Even with my 5 I took that out of my pocket whenever I sit down because it just makes sense for me to do so.

I got the 6 last Monday. 6 Plus is too big for my needs.
I had a play in an Apple Store and it's just too bulky and heavy.

Yeah I never saw why anyone would sit on there phone or keep it in a strained pocket... my phones an old blackberry and I take more care with that than people seem to be taking with some of the new phones they've just got... My phones so old in fact that the rubber on my blackberry curve has started to deteriorate and fall off the phone lol

Watching videos on your smartphone Cal? That's crazy talk! Smart phone batteries are crap as they are so, for me, watching videos/listening to music is the domain of an iPod (or Vita maybe).

Re: New Tech and Gadgetery!
The battery in my 6 Plus looks at all my Apps, Videos, Music and games and says...
It just keeps going.
I use it all the time. On the morning commute I'm listening to podcasts, playing a couple of games and watching vids. During work I use it regularly for chatting to people and doing work related testing on it. Then on the commute home there is a lot more games being played and videos being watched. Not to mention the odd bits of web browsing and maps on the go from time to time when I need to get about London.
Today after a full charge overnight the battery is currently at 44% after an average day's worth of usage.

Anybody else see the news item the other day about Samsung smart TV's? Apparently the models with speech recognition are listening to everything you say when the mode is active and the information is collected and passed on to third parties, which could then be used for something like targeted advertising on the home screen based on your tastes, not to mention the invasion of privacy!
To be fair you are told about this in the T & C's but who reads those when they buy a new TV?

It is easy to say that when your not among the affected!MarkySharky wrote:No one to blame if you don't read T&Cs.
I've also seen reports of the same series of Samsung TVs inserting ads into user's personal videos (ie. stuff stremed to the tv from a PC or on a USB stick) every 15 or so mins!
All of it can be disabled of course but I get really angry when companies try and get away with this crap. At least make it opt-in or make it clear during the setup process for the TV.
Re: New Tech and Gadgetery!
I have a Samsung Smart TV and use voice recognition all the time (beats looking for the remote control). Mine is three years' old, so I can't vouch for the latest software, but there's no advertising on the Smart Hub on mine.
I don't think they'd get any useful data thru mass aggregation of what is said by owners - how much crap is spoken in lounges? - unless it had some sort of algorithm to pick particular words or phrases out which could then be used for targeted marketing (but as I said, there's no ads on mine).. Far more useful to target specific people for espionage reasons

Next Apple Media Event is on 9th March. I'm expecting more info, pricing and release date for the AppleWatch. A device I am very interested in. If it is out around April and the UK rip-off price isn't too bad I might get one for myself as a Birthday present
I'm also secretly hoping for the reveal of a larger iPad so I can read my comics on a huge screen
Re: New Tech and Gadgetery!
I don't think the Apple Watch prices are too bad. £299 for the most basic one feels about right for Apple.
Sadly for me the one I really like the look of is £599 So when I eventually get around to buying it looks like I might just have to settle for the larger Sport version at £339. The way I am looking at it is that you have to compare it to getting something like a Rolex or a Tag Heuer watch. When you compare it to those it sort of even things out and in some cases starts looking like a good deal!
I'm in no rush at the moment as I kind of want to see what non-showcase Apps come out for the device and how people actually end up using it. Still it is a shiny new thing and I like shiny things
As for the crazy £14,000 version Apple know what they are doing and it certainly has everyone talking about the Apple Watch!

Re: New Tech and Gadgetery!
I'll be getting one. The cheapest version suits me. No need or justification for the more expensive version. They don't do anything different and barely look different. The small face will be fine for me and my girlyman wrists.

@Marky
There's a thing were you can get an actual size image of the two sizes if you look at the Apple Watch stuff on the Apple Store App on your phone.
Select a watch model --> View Prices --> Compare case sizes

Impulse bought a fancy pants new TV, amp and sound system because they were on clearance.
We were planning on buying a whole new setup after we got a house but man the offer we got was too good to pass up! So I am now the proud owner of a huge Sony tv with all the trimmings
It is a huuuge step up from my 8 year old Samsung HDTV. I feel like a whole new world of entertainment has opened up before me! I put it through its paces with some Bloodborne and watching Avengers in 3D.

Re: New Tech and Gadgetery!
Got an iPhone 6 last week. My first ever iPhone to iPhone upgrade - it's just staggering how smooth the transition is with iCloud/iTunes. Within half an hour my new phone was back to where it was on the 5 with apps, contacts, music, even alarms all in tact.
The screen res on the 5 now looks dead weird.

Who's upgraded to Windows 10? I think it's a big step in the right direction for Microsoft and the upgrade process was silky smooth. Now I'm just waiting for my XB1 to get the update so I can see this universal apps thing in action.
