I prefer to remember him as  Golob The Humanoid ...the first film in which he got Top billing... it is sad to hear he has passed though

Anyone have a favourite Discworld? They were part of my growing up, and I loved reading them as a teenager. I dropped off a bit as I got a bit older though, and missed a fair few of the latest series. I had a quick look in my book case and found Interesting Times, Maskerade, The Lost Continent, Carpe Jugulum, Mort and Thud, so I am going to presume I enjoyed these ones, as I still have them! I always enjoyed the Witches books though, and early Guards books. Such a unique writer.

I'm not sure if I have a favourite. I started with Colour of Magic when it first came out in paperback when I was about 13 and read them all as they came out until the mid 90s when I got out of the habit (maybe Maskerade was the last). Then I got back into them around the turn of the turn of the century, caught up and bought all the subsequent ones in hardback.

His books have then been something of a constant in my life for thirty years. I was quite upset when I found out he'd died. I saw *the* tweets about ten minutes after they were posted, while I was bored dialling into a phone conference and checking Twitter on my phone. Sadder then I've ever been for the death of someone I had never met. And likely as sad as I'll ever be in such circumstances - I can't think of anyone else who has brought me such enjoyment over such a period of time. I've previously been scathing about people who get overly emotional at deaths of those they don't know but I don't mind admitting that I welled up when I read those tweets.

Obviously his illness was well known and his death not a surprise but even  so Sad

After I finish my present book, I'm going to reread a Discworld book. Not decided which one yet, but probably Mort.

Bizarrely I had the same idea and had selected Mort as well. It just seems fitting.

Guards Guards all the way.  Just for the moment when the Librarian swings between the towers of the University, misses the dragon and slams into the wall with a perfectly timed 'Oook'.

Just brilliant.

Very sad news. The titanic score is particularly well remembered and is actually one of my favourite pieces of music .

Wes Craven, aged 76, died yesterday after a battle with brain cancer. He was mainly known as a horror movie director who gave us Nightmare On Elm Street, Scream, Last House On The Left and many more. RIP.

He invented so many of the stereotypes that we now roll our eyes at in horror movies! The original Nightmare would be my favourite, but Part 3 is also rather good, but don't think he directed that.

He was one of the writers responsible for part 3 and he was also an executive producer of it.

The thing is he invented some of the steriotypes and then he came back to them in Scream to sort of take the piss out of them while still using them to tell a story. He did a lot of other stuff though, his first film Last house on the left is cool but very hardcore it had religious groups trying to storm the projection booths where it was shown so they could trash it.

It was his 76th birthday on the 2nd of this month and I wrote a little something about him not long after ... Blog post about Wes Craven

His death is one that hits me pretty deep for someone I have always admired.

Another sad day for horror fans after the death of Wes Craven. Gunnar Hansen, best known as Leatherface in the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, has died aged 68 following a battle with pancreatic cancer. RIP.

RIP Lemmy. I was lucky to see a set list from him performed at Wacken last year. A living legend at the time, I'm very glad to have had that chance now he has suddenly died from a very quick diagnosis from cancer.

Cannot believe that Lemmy is dead, honestly thought that when humanity had ended him, Ozzy and Iggy Pop would be left standing.

Sad news about ex-Newcastle United Goalkeeper Pavel Srnicek who died aged 47.
