Fallout 4
Fallout 4 has been officially confirmed with a reveal trailer, apparently the trailer is "in game" and for once it's looks probable as the graphics look achievable rather than too good to be true. It's coming for PC, PS4 and Xbox One but no release date info yet, more details should be revealed at E3.

Re: Fallout 4
I have no doubt that I'll buy it, play it and enjoy it (in fact shopto are doing a special early pre-order price), however, I just don't see me getting massively excited for it.
One simple reason: The Witcher 3
The release of the aforementioned game has significantly raised the bar for WRPGs and I just don't see Bethesda being able to top it. Yes, Bethesda will doubtless give us a fantastic environment to explore, however, I'd really be surprised if that same world will be filled with genuinely meaningful side quests that really impact the world around you nor will it likely have a brilliantly unforgettable supporting cast of characters.
Let's also not forget that Bethesda aren't exactly known for giving us great main storylines either, obviously a consequence of having a blank slate character instead of a principal protagonist.
With all that said, it's still great to have another massive open world single player adventure to look forward to and it sure is a great time to be a fan of RPGs.

Eurogamer tries out the Pip Boy Edition. It's a lot bulkier, and looser, than I thought it would be.

Re: Fallout 4
The looseness can easily be fixed by adding some extra padding.megablast16 wrote:Eurogamer tries out the Pip Boy Edition. It's a lot bulkier, and looser, than I thought it would be.

Looks like a number of people are having issues with their GAME Pip-Boy Edition pre-orders.

Looks like a waste of money tbh

Re: Fallout 4
It's one of those items that for people who want it, it is worth the money. But for those who don't it looks like a waste of cash. Still props to Game for sweetening the deal with the Fallout Vault Club. I've managed to get a bonus t-shirt and bobblehead out of my pre-order at no extra cost so I don't feel like like I'm getting as fleeced as I usually do with collector's editions.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the reviews pan out tomorrow. I'm expecting it to be more of the same but on a bigger scale from Bethesda. Although if past experience is anything to go by that probably means people will complain that it is the same Fallout 3 but slightly better .

Re: Fallout 4
I wouldn't buy the Pip Edition, but then I'm not a collector of such things and I'm not even sure I'm going to get Fallout 4 at all yet. I guess it's worth what people are willing to pay for it, and it did sell out pretty quickly, so whether it's a waste of money is subjective.

Re: Fallout 4
Made a start on this and played for 3 hours or so. In the grand scheme of things I have done bugger all but I am really enjoying it so far. It's just great to be back in a Bethesda game world once again with all of its many, many interlocking systems and mechanics. Compared to Fallout 3 and New Vegas it is a huge step up. The world is brighter and more believable. The new dialogue system still gives you control while keeping things simple. The I've dabbled a bit in the crafting system a bit and it seems very deep. I am planning on giving the Settlement stuff a go later in the week but for now I am happy to leave that to one side. Mainly so I am not picking up every bit of junk I find for parts!
The only downside I can think of so far is that I felt the opening was a bit rushed.

As for my fancy plastic PipBoy… I am actually really happy that I got it. The build quality is surprisingly good and it matches with the one you get in game really well. The companion app is actually good to use with the only thing it is not able to manage being levelling up and game settings. It gives you a great tactile connection to the game and while a bit on the bulky side it feels good to use. I'm using a Z1 Compact that I am borrowing from work so the app display is a bit on the small side but it is manageable. It's a shame that they didn't design it to support my iPhone 6+ when it looks like a few tweaks to the casing would have accommodated it.

- Spoiler:
- I loved Fallout 3's slower paced opening and build up to venturing out into the wasteland. In this, just as I was getting interested in exploring the little bit of pre-bombing map it gives you all hell broke loose and suddenly I was 200 years in the future. It is meant to induce a sense of culture shock in the player but I felt I hadn't had the chance to grow attached to the life my character had before the bombs dropped. Still it is just a small moment in a grand game so I am not too upset by it.

Re: Fallout 4
Started messing around with the settlement building stuff. I now have a horrible looking building on top of the Red Rocket Station you get near the start of the game
Re: Fallout 4
I must be approaching about 35 hours or so now and I have built all kinds of stuff.. I could complete it if I would just pick a side and stick to it but I cant lol

Surely there is more to do in the game? You can't have done everything in it alreadykerr9000 wrote:I finished it and wish I hadnt , was such a good game.
Re: Fallout 4
I finished all the missions for one faction, most for 2 of the others and hardly any for the last... all it will let me do now is kind of pointless pottering around missions of little relevance but its a great game and I will keep mucking around with it now and then.
