No more SNES games on the Wii U virtual console?
According to the developer Natsume, Nintendo has no more interest in releasing 16-bit retro home titles on its download service. This information has come via several quotes that have been seen on the company Natsume's social network accounts. The main one is bellow.
“At this point, it’s unlikely we’ll see any other Natsume SNES games coming to the Virtual Console, as Nintendo’s interest has moved onto other classic systems.“ Seen on Twitter in response to a question about one of there games and if it was coming to the wii u virtual console or not.
Natsume apparently have gone on to discuss how Nintendo handles the politics behind the Virtual Console service. Which if what has been said is true is actually quiet intreesting. Apparently Nintendo has full discretion over which games are or are not added, publishers work alongside Nintendo to decide price points and brainstorm which games will sell best. So it is Nintendo themselves who seem to think enough is enough.

Not that surprising, I suppose. Once the classics are there, no point dipping below that level. Makes sense to move on to the following era. And Nintendo has a great back catalogue

Theres only around 50 SNES games up, which is not a lot at all... theres none of the big square games, Its mostly just first party and Capcom based stuff

A lot of it is to do with deals with the other publishers. Nintendo may curate the Virtual Console but they still need to reach agreements with the likes of Square on selling price and what cuts of the profits each party gets.
Also I think Nintendo are right to just mainly be focusing on their own first party games over third party ones. It is the only way many will get to play them while any third party publisher can port their older games over to another system/platform.
