Rise of the Tomb Raider
Interestingly, I've read today that preorders for this game were selling almost 2-1 in Sony's favour, which makes it even more baffling that Square decided to make it Xbox (timed) exclusive, even if MS are being dicks and not revealing for how long their exclusivity period is.

Re: Rise of the Tomb Raider
I heard awhile ago that they were moaning the last tomb raider despite doing well didnt sell as many copies as they would have liked.... which makes the idea of making it exclusive to the console with almost half as many units out there even weirder...
So If its only on xbox one and there's not a less umpthy version on the 360, and there's no ps4 and pc version at least for now is that not the equivalent of kneecapping yourself at the start of the race as far as trying to outsell the last version goes.

Re: Rise of the Tomb Raider
This whole thing has been a cluster fuck due to both Square and Microsoft's inability to explain things without business speak getting in the way.
All they have to say was, "Coming first to Xbox One Holiday 2015" and so many people would be less angry.

Re: Rise of the Tomb Raider
Squenix was unhappy at the units shifted but it's targets were completely unrealistic for a game of this type. It did well as far as I can see (nearly 6mn sold, which sounds good to me).

Re: Rise of the Tomb Raider
I remember reading that their decision to go exclusive was linked to releasing in the same time frame as Uncharted 4. I wonder if Sqaure Enix want to capitalise on providing an alternative for xbox gamers rather than going up against Uncharted.
Although that decision still severly limits their audience.

Re: Rise of the Tomb Raider
Me too, they're both good series. Uncharted *is* a take on tomb Raider and TR *is* a take on Indiana Jones ('Indiana Jane, mags called it when the first one was released). But Indiana Jones is a take on 30s/40s movie serials (as Spielberg said).MarkySharky wrote:I'll just enjoy playing both.
And, tbh, indomitable heroes facing insurmountable odds is a theme going back into the depths of time. Best not to question a great game's derivation and rather just hang on for the ride

Re: Rise of the Tomb Raider
Exactly. Who cares. They're both great games. Well I like the new Tomb Raider but not the old ones.
If they both come out at the same time at least I'll get to play them both at the same time.

Re: Rise of the Tomb Raider
I think the new TR trumped Uncharted. But I love them both really so if they both give me a good game what's wrong with that? But I think without Uncharted TR would not have stepped up its game.

Re: Rise of the Tomb Raider
I prefer Uncharted .... I finished tomb raider 1,2,3 and legends but some of the others left me cold ...they got sloppy. I havent played the Recent one yet even though I own it... My wanting to see tomb raider get smashed isent saying I am not going to ever play it etc ... I just know people who go on and on about Tomb Raider like its the greatest series ever and to see it fall on its arse would get me some piece for a bit ..... I also hate the whole concept of money brought exclusives and dont want a situation where every other game is locked in to ps4 or xbox one just for the money... Its a bit diffrent with IP you know is owned by a particular console manufacturer you take that in to account when deciding what console to own but when your invested in a series and then suddenly your cock blocked by someone throwing money around it is annoying (im not invested in tomb raider but can understand why others are annoyed in this way).

Re: Rise of the Tomb Raider
I like them both a lot. Despite their surface level similarities they are very different games.
Re: Rise of the Tomb Raider
I wouldn't say 'very' necessarily but enough differences to be enjoyed and respected as separate games.
Re: Rise of the Tomb Raider
I thought it was a very strange decision by Square Enix to give Microsoft exclusivity, and the news it was coming to Xbox 360 as well - I thought it was next gen only. Having said though Phil Spencer's comment the day after the announcement that the deal "has a duration" probably means it'll appear on Playstation eventually.

Re: Rise of the Tomb Raider
Yeah probably on pc and ps4 a year latter along with a xbox one game of the year addition to milk as much as possible out of it
That way you get whatever cash they get off MS plus sales round 1, then dlc sales then sales round 2.

Re: Rise of the Tomb Raider
To be honest I'll probably have an Xbox One by the time Rise comes out anyway so it's no biggie for me, but if and when PC/PS4 versions do come out with the extra development time they'll be the superior versions.

Re: Rise of the Tomb Raider
Final box art revealed and a new trailer. CGI only though unfortunately, although gameplay will almost certainly be shown at E3 as this will feature prominently at the Microsoft show.

Re: Rise of the Tomb Raider
I can't wait to see more of this game! Possibly one of my most anticipated games that will be shown off more at E3.
Re: Rise of the Tomb Raider

Not when it was one of the best games ever!
Looks like I won't be getting to play this for a while. I'll just have to console myself with replaying old Uncharted games instead lol.

I am looking forward to this one. Be good to see some gameplay at E3, figure MS will go large on it during its conference.

Absolutely, I think MS will lead with it, perhaps with an on stage gameplay demo, and confirmed release date.

Re: Rise of the Tomb Raider
We all guessed it would come eventually but Square-Enix has now confirmed there will be a PS4 version of ROTTR, but not until late 2016. The PC version is early next year.
Although everybody thought it was timed I'm a bit surprised they've announced it before the Xbox One version has been released, I'd have thought MS would have wanted them to wait until the new year.

Re: Rise of the Tomb Raider
Expected but I'm glad it's finally announced. Although due to the delay in getting to play it I will probably not be fussed to wait a bit longer and get it down the line when cheaper.
