The Order 1886
I couldn't remember where we were talking about The Order, so decided to create new thread, with our drive to have more threads.
I've just read GamesTM's review of this game, which gave it a 3/10. Having also been playing this game, and nearing the end (Chapter 13 of 16), I feel I have played enough to make an informed judgement of the game.
And that is I have never been so shocked by such a vitriolic review. It feels as if all judgement has been taken away from the reviewer and he's on a crusade to just completely debunk this game as much as possible.
I'm not usually one to care about reviews, as I feel that they are only one persons opinion. This review has not changed my own opinion of this game, which is a quality game with flaws. But having read the review, it just seems so alarmingly one-sided, I question the reviewers motives, especially as having played the game, I don't fully agree with everything.
For example, in one statement, the review says that you are meant to playing a character from The Order, a band of heroes who are respected, but that the game fails to depict the characters as such. Actually, it is referenced many times throughout the game, that The Order are clearly on a downward slide, and that it is not the coveted and as-respected organisation it once used to be.
GamesTM also just about praises the game's graphics, but its done in such a backhanded compliment as to almost come across as pessimistic. In fact, the game should really be praised for its graphics.
GamesTM obviously trump their reviews as not being PR-speak, but written by knowledgeable and enthusiastic gamers, to engage. But this review so poorly represents the game (it's positives and negative aspects of the game) that it actually dis-credits the reviewers opinion.
Reviews are always dodgy ground, particularly in gaming (why do movie reviews never seem so important?), but having read this today, it made me feel like I had to say something about it, even on our tiny little forum. This review in particular almost makes me think what the point in even having reviews really is, its so different from my own thoughts on the game.

Re: The Order 1886
The Order gets such a bad rap, for me it is a 7/8 out 10 game. The problem it has is that Read At Dawn dared to have the gall to make a cinematic game. A genre that never seems to go over well with your typical game reviewer for some reason.
Like you say, it has its flaws but otherwise it is an enjoyable and damn fine looking game. With a great set of characters and story. (SPOILERS even if it gets all a bit Dark Knight like at the end!)

Re: The Order 1886
It certainly isn't a 3/10 game but, despite initially liking it, I was pretty bored of it by the end. As I've said in other threads I borrowed the copy I played but I'd have been pretty pissed off if I'd bought it having completed it 100% with the Platinum Trophy in about 8 hours spread over a couple of days, it's brevity and lack of replay value are disappointing as are it's over reliance on QTE's and copious and lengthy cut scenes, whole chapters are nothing but cut scene. The thing is I'm not averse to cinematic games, I loved Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls, but they had some interesting things going on and I was way more into their stories than I was with The Order. It's not a terrible game by any means, just a pretty average third person shooter given status with it's true next gen looks and the fact it's the first proper PS4 exclusive since Driveclub 6 months ago.
