Godus and the "fall" of Peter Molyneux
It's been the new story of the week, apparently Godus has failed and it is all Peter Molyneux's fault.
Personally I can see both sides, my games industry hat means I know and understand the realities of game development and that Godus has simply been mismanaged. But as a backer for the game it has gone way off course and I have still to receive all the things that I paid for. I'm frustrated but understanding its an odd feeling.
I have always found Peter Molyneux to be a really interesting guy. I've seen him speak and I've met him. He was a nice enough bloke with a lot of enthusiasm for what he was doing. Part of me sees the need to have someone like him in the industry as a recognisable face and I've enjoyed a lot of his games but they tend to run in cycles.
There's the hype, then the release, then the excuse making, then the apologies, then the promise of making something better, then the next round of hype.
Still whether or not you love or hate Peter Molyneux you need to read his interview with Rock, Paper, Shotgun. It is a fascinating and gripping read:

His games never deliver on everything he says will happen during development. I've thought before it must be dreadful to be in his teams - lots of Facepalm moments after he does an interview.
That being said, I loved the three main Fable ha,es (Fable 2 was one of my favourite games last gen).
Maybe this time, on godus, there was no-one around to stop his largest excesses

Never had an opinion on him either way to be honest but then earlier tonight I started to read an interview with him and he did come across as a total knobend but then so did the interviewer so who knows.

I feel a bit sorry for Molyneux sometimes. He's a victim of his own enthusiasm, I think. That doesn't really excuse some of the messes he's overseen, but he's richer than any of us could probably ever hope to be, could have retired years ago, yet still continues to pump his own money and time in to new projects and ventures.

I like his enthusiasm and drive but he really needs some kind of minder to stop him talking such drival and promising things he cant deliver...does he get over excited or does part of his brain just not work who knows but the guy needs someone to act as his filter/career
