Gamescom, the EU's E3? Empty Gamescom, the EU's E3?

It's been cool to see Gamescom grow in size and scope over the past couple of years. But it seems like this is the year that it has finally become a global event for the games industry.

We've seen several big announcements and reveals during the show and best part for me anyway is that a lot of them are focused on the smaller and more independent games that tend to get lost in the noise and buzz of E3.

Anyone else feel the same way or is Gamescom just another trade show for the industry?

I didn't see Microsoft's show but I did watch Sony's and I thought it was better than their E3 conference. It was a lot shorter and to the point, it didn't have that tedious mid section where they waffled on about TV and such, and more importantly there was some genuinely interesting new game announcements. Something that was missing from E3.

I really like the look of Wild, Hellblade, PT(aka Silent Hills), Tearaway Unfolded, Rime, Until Dawn and Alienation among others and new footage from the likes of Bloodborne and Driveclub looked impressive. There was plenty of other announcements and new footage of upcoming games from third parties plus, of course, the bombshell news that Rise Of The Tomb Raider is an XBOX exclusive, although events since seem to point to the deal being timed

Hopefully Gamescom can continue to grow and will one day rival E3 right here in Europe.

Actually yeah I do feel this could be Europes E3 one day. I definitely got the feeling of it growing this year. Sony and Microsoft put on a good show with some actual reveals (Sony have said there was more they could show!). Lots of good stuff from the smaller studios too inc the guys at DE with their latest on Warframe which continues to get better and better. However there were so many game trailers that it just appeared to be one big advert after a while and a bit short on news.

My fave CIG were there to show of Star Citizen, can't wait for PAX Aussie for more on that. I'm definitely gonna need a PC upgrade for that beast.

I was also actually impressed with the new CoD MP on view. IGN did some nice work here showing of some gameplay. First time in a while a CoD has me excited. Other games of note were The Order which looks very impressive graphically.

Overall I wish I'd have gone to Gamescom this year. Tried to blag tickets for the RAF but they were having none of it.
