Resident Evil VII Empty Resident Evil VII

Post by Wolvieware Tue Jun 14, 2016 11:13 pm

It seems this game might generate enough chat to warrant its own thread.

I've just played the demo. It wasn't bad, in fact it was quite effective and had a high quality factor sometimes missing in Capcom games. But it's just not Resi.

I didn't feel like I was playing a Resi game, there didn't seem to be any Resi links in this demo, and I just don't understand the buzz this demo has had. It's PT all over again, just in a new house. Is that really what Capcom should do with a series that's 20 years old - capitulate to the naysayers and follow the "trend" of a year old demo just because that got (deservedly) high praise?

I'm not a Resi apologist. I like the classic Resi. I like the action Resi with its combat and coop. I get the calls to "go back to its roots". In fact, they already did - Revelations is the most class is Resi since it changed direction with 4. But this isn't what I want Resi to be - a dirty, grungy horror, torture porn style thing, just because that seems to be what the fans want.

I want over the top action and shit dialogue.

I didn't think this was bad demo at all, but it seems so far from Resi they should have launched a new series. But perhaps more will be revealed soon, and Chris Redfield will make an appearance.

I get your concerns Wolvie but if there's one franchise that is in need of a radical overhaul it's Resident Evil, even moreso now that Konami have stupidly killed the far superior (IMO) Silent Hill series. I feel that that alone means there's a gap in the market for something more akin to those games or something similar to Outlast etc which is obviously the feel that Capcom wanted to give with this teaser. The fact that this demo is 'just not Resi' is actually the best fucking thing about it, IMO of course.

Buy yes, they shouldn't have called it Resident Evil and should have launched it as a new franchise.

This had* me potentially more excited about any Resident Evil game than I've been since the first one all those years ago.

* With all that said , I say 'had' because Capcom have now come out a said that this teaser is not part of the main game and that it will feature a different lead character, so fuck knows how much this teaser actually has to do with the game proper.

Knowing them, this teaser will have absolutely nothing to do with the main game AT ALL and they probably decided to cash-in on the much hyped PT demo, and we'll just get a bog standard Resident Evil game which would be a massive shame and definitely NOT something I want and I certainly don't wish to see the return of Chris Redfield etc

Capcom have said the demo isn't actually in the full game at all, it will also have a different lead character to the demo.

I really enjoyed the demo it has a lot of cool stuff hidden away in it. It has served its purpose and got me interested to uncover more by buying the final game. The demo may not be in the full game but it links in with it which I prefer. It is a very unique and video game way of promoting a title. It shows you how the full game will play but with a different story created just for the short experience of the demo.

Anyone planning to play the whole thing in VR when it comes out? I'm very tempted!

I agree wholly with Wolvie. There is nothing remotely RE about this demo at all.

The series has suffered an identity crisis really with the dawn of RE4. One extreme to the other. Horror to shooter. Third person to first person.

I'm still keen to see what the proper game has to offer but hopefully it's not all like the demo.
